While honoring Jews expelled from Arab lands, the United Nations demonizes the country that gave them refuge.

While the UN is planning to raise awareness in the international community next month about the nearly one million Jewish refugees expelled from Arab countries around the time of the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, its Special Political and Decolonization Committee adopted eight resolutions last Friday that blast Israel.
The watchdog group UN Watch reported that the UN Special Political and Decolonization Committee, made up of 193 member states, also known as Fourth Committee, condemned Israel for “repressive measures” against Syrian citizens in the Golan Heights and demanded Israel hand over the land to Syria; renewed the mandate of the UN Relief and Works Agency; and renewed the mandate of the UN’s “special committee to investigate Israeli practices affecting the human rights of the Palestinian people and other Arabs of the Occupied Territories,” according to JNS.
The resolutions were denounced in front of the General Assembly on Friday by Cherith Norman Chalet, acting US Deputy Representative to the UN.
“It is deplorable that the United Nations—an institution founded upon the idea that all nations should be treated equally—should be so often used by member states to treat one state in particular, Israel, unequally,” she said. “We see resolutions that are quick to condemn all manner of Israeli actions, but say nothing or almost nothing about terrorist attacks against innocent civilians. This is particularly apparent when we see Israel blamed for the situation in Gaza, while none of these resolutions even mentions the word ‘Hamas,’ or any armed groups in Gaza.”
Chalet noted the silence of the committee with regard to the hundreds of rockets shot into Israel last week from the Gaza Strip, reaching as far as Tel Aviv.
“Just this week, we saw barrages of rockets on Israeli civilians fired from Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Gaza. It is shameful that the UN cannot condemn these acts of terror in any of the resolutions,” she continued. “One-sided resolutions do not help advance peace. The cause of peace will be served when the bias of the United Nations against Israel ends.”
Ironically, next month, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Israel’s UN Mission and the Jews Indigenous to the Middle East and North Africa (JIMENA) organization is holding an event to recognize the expulsion of Jews from Arab countries.
“The story of nearly a million Jews who were brutally expelled from their homes has so far received no UN attention and has even been deliberately downplayed to focus solely on the Palestinian narrative,” Danny Danon, Israel’s UN representative, said in a statement on Monday, according to Algemeiner. “The State of Israel must voice support for Jewish refugees and correct this historical injustice.”
The keynote speaker at the event is the former Miss Iraq, Sarah Idan, who has faced her own persecutions. In 2017, Idan posted a selfie with Miss Israel, Adar Gandelsman. This caused a heavy controversy in her home country that caused Idan to seek refuge in the US.
