This video shows the remains of a 1500-year old scroll that was discovered in Ein Gedi in 1970 and is now being read for the first time.

While exploring the ruins of an ancient synagogue at Ein Gedi on the shores of the Dead Sea, archaeologists discovered charred pieces of parchment, which turned out to be from the sixth century CE. Until recently, the parchment was unreadable, but thanks to modern day technology, we now know what it says.

The parchment contains the first eight verses of the Torah portion of Leviticus, describing the rules for ritual sacrifice. This is the most significant find since the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
