A unique First Temple-era seal recently discovered at the Western Wall plaza is the latest piece of archaeological evidence supporting Jewish historical claims to Jerusalem.

A stamped piece of clay from the First Temple period, which belonged to “sar ha’ir” – the “governor of the city” of Jerusalem, the most prominent local position to be held in Jerusalem 2,700 years ago – was recently unearthed and presented to Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat.

Watch as the Israel Antiquities Authority’s Shlomit Weksler-Bdolah, excavator of the site located in the northwestern part of the Western Wall Plaza, explains the significance of this important find – another piece of evidence proving the Jewish People’s ancient ties to their eternal capital.
