“We are always on call to protect Israel,” the IDF stated.
For the 1st time, “Shimshon” C-130J Super Hercules aircraft were being used to put out wildfires in Jerusalem, the IDF announced in a tweet Tuesday evening.
Since Monday afternoon, Israel has been battling massive wildfires in the forested Jerusalem hills just west of the capital. Many homes were burned down, as well as a winery and a psychiatric hospital.
Airborne search and rescue Unit 669 & Home Front Command troops were also on the ground to help extinguish the flames, which now appear to be under control.
