Saplings are already starting to take root in the Jerusalem hills ravaged by an August forest fire that took days to put out.

Officials worry that the dense forest of pine trees in the hills surrounding the Israeli capital could create a tinderbox for another massive blaze.

Amir Balaban from the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel discusses a shift in forestry’s understanding of wild fires and what causes them.
