Not only was Kerem Hateimanim recently ranked as one of the top 15 “coolest” communities in the world, it has a massive number of synagogues.

Tel Aviv’s Kerem Hateimanim is one of the city’s oldest areas, predating even the official establishment of the municipality over a century ago.

The neighborhood, whose name is loosely translated as “The Yemenite Quarter,” was once home to Jewish refugees fleeing persecution in Arab lands. After immigrating to Israel, these families flourished, producing so many children that many established their own synagogues adjacent to their homes.

While the community has transformed into one of the “hippest” neighborhoods in the world according to a leading travel magazine, it is still home to 50 synagogues. Check out this beautiful, diverse slice of Tel Aviv!
