Jerusalem Rabbi Dror Moshe Cassouto explains the connection between the Book of Ruth and the Festival of Shavuot.

It is customary to read the Book of Ruth on the Festival of Shavuot, also known as Zman Matan Torah, “the time of the giving of the Torah.

Ruth, a Moabite woman, was widowed. Rather than returning to her own people after losing her husband, she chose to follow her mother-in-law, Naomi, pledging to follow in her ways.

Ruth demonstrated pure faith, and for doing so merited to become the great-grandmother of King David.

In this video, Jerusalem Rabbi Dror Moshe Cassouto, known as “Rav Dror,” explains the connection of the Book of Ruth and Shavuot.
