For centuries, Jewish communities flourished in Baghdad, Tehran, Cairo and other cities in the Middle East.
That changed with the establishment of Israel in 1947, when Arab countries and Iran banished their Jewish populations in protest.
These Jews left everything behind, including communities dating back for generations, to make a new home in Israel.
They were forced to leave everything behind:
Their homes, loved ones, places of worship, and businesses.
Today, we remember and honor the nearly one million Jews expelled from Arab countries and Iran after the 1947 UN vote to establish Israel.
