Although the US indicated that it would continue to assist Israel in its defense against Iranian attacks, Biden told Netanyahu he would neither support nor participate in Israel’s potential retaliation against Iran for Saturday’s onslaught.

The US military, along with the British RAF, Jordanian forces, and Israel’s air force and Iron Dome, prevented 200 Iranian drones and missiles from reaching Israeli targets.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said in a statement that the US would be poised to provide further defense to Israel.

The forces also eliminated missiles fired from Yemen, Syria, and Iraq.

Austin said, “We condemn these reckless and unprecedented attacks by Iran and its proxies, and we call on Iran to immediately halt any further attacks, including from its proxy forces, and to de-escalate tensions.”

He added, “We do not seek conflict with Iran, but we will not hesitate to act to protect our forces and support the defense of Israel.”

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on X, “The United States condemns Iran’s attack on Israel.  As the President said, our commitment to Israel’s security against threats from Iran is ironclad.”

Blinken added, “The United States condemns Iran’s attack on Israel in the strongest terms.  While we do not seek escalation, we will continue to support Israel’s defense, and as the President made clear, we will defend US personnel. ”

He added, “I will be consulting with allies and partners in the region and around the world in the hours and days ahead.”

However, the Biden Administration’s pledge to support Israel’s defense doesn’t seem to include endorsing the Jewish State’s potential retaliation against Iran for the attacks on Saturday.

According to an Axios report, during a half-hour conversation between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Joe Biden on Saturday night, Biden indicated that he would not support or participate in any retaliatory strikes Israel may make against Iran.

Biden reported that during his conversation with Netanyahu, he reaffirmed the United States’ “ironclad” support for Israel.

He added, “I told him that Israel demonstrated a remarkable capacity to defend against and defeat even unprecedented attacks – sending a clear message to its foes that they cannot effectively threaten the security of Israel.”
