Le 27 juin 1976, le vol 139 d’Air France qui provenait de Tel Aviv a été détourné alors qu’il se rendait à Paris. Tsahal a alors entrepris la mission de sauvetage la plus audacieuse et la plus réussie de l’histoire israélienne: l’opération Entebbe.
Le frère du Premier ministre Benyamin Netanyahu a perdu la vie au cours de l’opération, qu’il dirigeit.
