The IDF on Tuesday announced that it had discovered and destroyed an underground Hamas terror attack tunnel in the Beit Lahia region of northern Gaza.
The tunnel, which was discovered by combat engineers as a result of intelligence information, was over a kilometer in length, the IDF said.
The forces also found weapons, electrical infrastructure and a rail line to transport equipment inside the tunnel, the IDF added.
Major “S,” the engineering officer for the IDF’s Northern Brigade, noted, “Inside the tunnel, we found infrastructure proving the tunnel served Hamas in a significant way in terror activity against our forces.”
On Monday, The New York Times reported that the IDF had seized a Hamas handbook detailing the terror group’s combat tactics within its elaborate terror tunnel system beneath Gaza.
The handbook reportedly included details about “how to navigate in darkness, move stealthily beneath Gaza and fire automatic weapons in confined spaces for maximum lethality.”
Hamas commanders “were even instructed to time, down to the second, how long it took their fighters to move between various points underground,” according to The New York Times.
In addition, the combat manual “contains instructions on how to camouflage tunnel entrances, locate them with compasses or GPS, enter quickly and move efficiently,” The New York Times said.
