The IDF and Shin Bet announced Monday that they eliminated an Islamic Jihad terrorist who infiltrated Israel during the Oct. 7 massacre and took part in the kidnapping of Israeli civilians.
According to the military, Zaher Brahim Khalil Abu Salem was killed in an airstrike in northern Gaza on Sunday.
The IDF said Abu Salem crossed into Israel during the Oct. 7 attack, participated in abducting Israeli civilians from their homes and was involved in holding hostages in Gaza.
Throughout the war, including in recent weeks, Abu Salem also worked to advance multiple terrorist attacks against Israeli forces and civilians, according to the military. The IDF said he posed an immediate threat to troops operating in Gaza and was eliminated in a targeted strike.
The announcement comes a day after the IDF and Shin Bet revealed the elimination of several senior Hamas terrorists involved in both the Oct. 7 massacre and ongoing attacks against Israeli forces.
Among them were Hamas Nukhba commander Abd al-Rahman Maher Abd al-Karim Ziyada, who infiltrated Israel on Oct. 7 and seized an IDF vehicle; Hamas tunnel unit chief Kamal Mohammed Hamdan Najar, and three commanders from Hamas’ naval police.
The military said Southern Command forces remain deployed in Gaza in accordance with the current agreement and will continue operating to eliminate any immediate threats.
