In another gruesome act of terror against Christians, ISIS in Libya executes two groups of Ethiopians.
Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists shot and beheaded Ethiopian Christian captives, a video purportedly produced by the Islamists shows.
The video, released on Sunday, starts with what it calls a history of Christian-Muslim relations, followed by scenes of terrorists destroying churches, Christian graves and icons. A masked fighter brandishing a pistol delivers a long statement in English, saying that Christians must convert to Islam or pay the Jazi’a, a special tax prescribed by the Koran. “Muslim blood that was shed under the hands of your religion is not cheap,” he states.
In the 29-minute clip, ISIS terrorists are seen marching 15 orange-clad captives onto a beach in Libya, while another group of 15, dressed in black, is seen marched onto a desert wasteland in Ethiopia. The captives on the beach were beheaded, and the others were shot in the head.
Both groups were referred to in a subtitle as “worshipers of the cross belonging to the hostile Ethiopian church.”
This latest atrocity committed by the Islamic terror organization widens the circle of nations suffering under ISIS while showing its growth beyond a self-declared caliphate in Syria and Iraq.
The release of the gruesome video comes a day after Afghanistan’s president blamed ISIS for a suicide attack in his country that killed at least 35 people. It underscores the chaos gripping Libya after its 2011 civil war and the killing of dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
It also mirrors a film released in February showing ISIS terrorists beheading 21 captured Egyptian Christians on a Libyan beach, which immediately drew Egyptian airstrikes on ISIS positions in Libya.
Whether Ethiopia would – or even could – respond with similar military force remains unclear.
‘No Religion Orders the Killing of Other People’
Ethiopia has long drawn the anger of Islamic extremists over its military’s attacks on neighboring Somalia, whose population is almost entirely Muslim.
The video, released via social media and websites, could not be independently verified. However, it corresponded to other videos released by ISIS and bore the symbol of its al-Furqan media arm.
Abba Kaletsidk Mulugeta, an official with the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church’s Patriarchate Office, told AP that the victims likely were migrants.
“I believe this is just another case of the ISIS group killing Christians in the name of Islam. Our fellow citizens have just been killed on a faith-based violence that is totally unacceptable. This is outrageous,” Mulugeta said. “No religion orders the killing of other people, even people from another religion.”
