Israel and Honduras signed a memorandum of understanding on Sunday aimed at deepening long-term defense cooperation between the two countries, Israel’s Defense Ministry announced.

Defense Minister Israel Katz signed the agreement with Honduran Defense Minister Enrique Rodríguez Burchard during an official visit to Israel by a senior Honduran delegation.

The signing ceremony was attended by Defense Ministry Director General Maj. Gen. (res.) Amir Baram, senior Israeli and Honduran defense officials, and Israel’s defense attaché to Honduras.

The Defense Ministry described Honduras as an important Israeli partner in Central America, noting its longstanding support for Israel in the international arena. The new agreement is intended to establish a framework for expanded security cooperation based on shared interests and values.

During the visit, Rodríguez Burchard was joined by Honduras’s security minister and the head of the country’s military Joint Staff for a series of discussions with Israeli officials.

The talks covered shared strategic and security challenges as well as opportunities to broaden cooperation. Israeli officials briefed the delegation on the security and operational threats Israel has faced in recent years, including lessons from the country’s multi-front war and its response to evolving threats across the region.

The Honduran delegation was also presented with an overview of Israel’s defense establishment and its capabilities, including aspects of the country’s defense industry. Officials from both countries discussed potential areas for further cooperation.

The agreement is the latest in a series of defense partnerships advanced by Israel over the past year as Jerusalem seeks to strengthen strategic ties with friendly countries and expand cooperation involving Israeli defense industries in international markets.

The Defense Ministry said the Honduras agreement represents another step toward expanding Israel’s network of security partnerships and establishing deeper, long-term ties with allies around the world.
