Israel’s National Security Council issued a warning of possible terror attacks in a travel advisory ahead of the upcoming Jewish holidays.

The Jewish High Holy Days begin next month, in light of which Israel’s National Security Council (NSC) Counter-Terrorism Bureau issued a warning on Monday that these holidays “are liable to constitute pretexts for terrorist attacks against Israeli and Jewish targets abroad.”

NSC published a list of countries and regions where Israelis face a heightened risk. The warnings are based “on solid and reliable information and reflect tangible threats,” NSC stated.

“Recent terrorist attacks by Islamic extremists over the past year in Belgium, Canada, Australia, France and Denmark raise concerns over additional attacks against Western targets, including Israeli and Jewish targets, especially by veterans of the fighting in Syria and Iraq who are affiliated with Global Jihad, including the Islamic State (ISIS), and by local and regional elements inspired by the terrorist organizations,” the statement read.

“The global terrorist campaign by Iran and Hezbollah continues to threaten Israeli and Jewish targets around the world, especially tourists and Jewish symbols such as rabbis, community leaders, Chabad houses,” which have been the targets of Islamic terror in the past.

On July 18, 2012, for example, a Hezbollah terrorist blew himself up on a bus full of Israeli tourists at Burgas Airport, Bulgaria. The explosion killed the Bulgarian bus driver and five Israeli tourists, and injured another 34 Israelis.

Furthermore, Israel fears that the recently signed accord between the Islamic Republic and the P5+1 powers will lead to an intensification of Iran’s global terror activities.

It is illegal for Israelis to travel to most Arab countries, and a severe travel warning remains in effect for the Sinai Peninsula, favored by many Israelis as a resort, NSC underscored.

There are “very high concrete threats’ regarding travel to many countries, including Afghanistan, Indonesia, Ivory Coast, Malaysia, Mali, Pakistan and Togo, among others. “It is recommended that the public avoid all visits to these countries. Any Israelis present in these countries are advised to leave immediately,” NSC stated.

Israelis are advised to stay away from large parts of Asia, Africa, the Middle East and regions that are experiencing instability and upheaval such as Thailand and Chechnya.

“Travelers and tourists are called upon to exercise due caution at all times,” NSC concludes.
