Israel is bracing itself for the annual cyber attack aby pro-Palestinian hackers. Video clips have been circulating in various languages warning about Thursday’s imminent disruption of networks identified as being associated with the Jewish state. No real damage is expected.

Israeli security agencies and cyber defense units are on high alert in anticipation of cyber attacks by Anonymous on Thursday, after the hackers had previously targeted the Jewish State on April 7 in past years.

The attacks in solidarity with the Palestinians have in the past succeeded in blocking government and other sites, including the Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs, but all-in-all have caused little damage.

AFP quoted a Shin Bet (Israel’s Security Agency) official who said that Israel is prepared for “all forms of aggression. Israel is well-protected.”

The April 7 cyber-attacks were first launched in 2013, and that year coincided with the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day in Israel.

“Anonymous” hackers gather for a yearly demonstration of support for the “Palestinian cause.”

In threatening videos that have been circulating for more than a month in English, Arabic, French and German, the group’s members are threatening Israel with the cyber attack “to punish the Zionist entity for continuing its murderous assaults and crimes against humanity that it commits against the Palestinian people.” The clips also call on the world to join the planned cyber attack, “and to unite in solidarity with the Palestinians against Israel.”

Israel has an advanced cyber-security apparatus, and fends of thousands of cyber attacks on a daily basis.
