Israeli Police along with Shin Bet have arrested the sister of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on suspicion of her having participated in terrorist activities.

Her residence in the southern town of Tel Sheva was raided on Monday morning in an operation called “Early Dawn.”

The unnamed 57-year-old woman was arrested for possessing documents and other items “linking her to serious security offenses,” said the police.

She is being held on suspicion of aiding and abetting a terrorist organization and supporting acts of terrorism in Israel.

Police and security forces located and seized phones and documents as evidence and also found thousands of shekels in cash in her home.

She is currently being held and questioned by the central unit of the Negev Police Department and is expected to have a hearing on Monday at the Beerheva Magistrate Court with a request to extend her detention.

The commander of the Southern District, Superintendent Amir Cohen, said forces in the Southern District are prepared to go at great lengths to thwart terrorist attacks and to find and arrest those responsible to ensure the safety of Israelis.

Ismail Haniyeh, along with Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Deif are considered as the main Hamas leaders.

Ismail Haniyeh resides in Qatar and has weighed in on negotiations for the release of Israeli hostages.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the apparent vacillation of Hamas’s position on a hostage deal results from disagreements between Ismail Haniyeh and Yahya Sinwar, with Haniyeh, according to reports, ready to agree to a pause in fighting and Sinwar demanding nothing less than Israel’s declaration of a permanent ceasefire and the withdrawal of all IDF troops from Gaza before a single hostage is released.

Haniyeh resides in Qatar and might have been swayed by Qatar’s threat to expel Hamas leaders from its borders if they didn’t agree to a hostage deal.

Yahya Sinwar, who planned the October 7th attacks along with his brother Mohammed and Mohammed Deif, is thought to be hiding in Gaza and according to some reports, is using hostages as human shields.
