Palestinian Boycott of ‘Wonder Woman’ Exposes ‘Weakness and Fear,’ IDF Official Says

“Those who are sure of themselves are not afraid of movies, even if they star Wonder Woman,” COGAT’s commander said.

The decision by a Ramallah movie theater not to screen the blockbuster film Wonder Woman due to the starring role of Israel actress Gal Gadot exudes “weakness and fear,” a top IDF official said on Sunday.

“Apparently, at the Baraj Palestine Theater in Ramallah they are afraid the audience will enjoy the excellent movie ‘Wonder Woman,’ and cannot separate politics from an American film,” Maj. Gen. Yoav Mordechai — the head of the IDF’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) unit — wrote in Arabic on his Facebook page, according to Israeli media reports.

“Those who are sure of themselves are not afraid of movies, even if they star Wonder Woman,” Mordechai concluded.

COGAT is the IDF unit responsible for implementing government policy in Judea and Samaria and vis-à-vis the Gaza Strip

Wonder Woman — which hit screens around the world last week and has already earned nearly $300 million — has also faced boycotts in Lebanon, Jordan, Tunisia and Algeria.

The Hollywood media site Deadline.com reported Thursday that the movie’s scheduled release in Tunisia was suspended because of Gadot’s defense of Israel’s 2014 counter-terrorism operation in Gaza.
