“The UN must reverse this outrageous decision and apologize to the Jewish people. Zionism and Jerusalem are the foundation-stones and the moral basis upon which the State of Israel was founded,” Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, said.

Israel’s envoy to the UN Danny Danon vowed to fight a decision by the United Nations (UN) to disqualify an Israeli exhibition on the centrality of Jerusalem, Israel’s capital city, to Zionism and Israel.

Danon and StandWithUs initiated a special exhibition about Israel at the UN, but key elements portraying Zionism, Jerusalem and Arab Israelis were disqualified by the organization.

Danon responded by demanding that Secretary General Ban Ki-moon reverse the decision and include the censored elements in a special exhibition that would protest the ban and portray the absurdity of the UN’s decision.

“By disqualifying an exhibition about Zionism the UN is undermining the very existence of the State of Israel as the homeland of the Jewish people,” Danon satted on Sunday.  “We will not allow the UN to censor the fact that Jerusalem is Israel’s eternal capital,” he continued.

The exhibition was set to open this Monday, but due to the decision to remove elements of the heritage of the Jewish people and the State of Israel, Danon decided to display the banned elements of the exhibit exposing what he termed as “contemptible censorship enacted by the UN.”

“According to this scandalous decision, Zionism is not worthy of the UN, so we are taking appropriate measures,” the Danon noted.  “We will make sure that these banned exhibits will be viewed by millions around the world.”

“Forty years ago the UN General Assembly approved a resolution equating Zionism with racism.  The resolution was reversed sixteen years later. With this decision, the UN is de-facto enacting this old resolution, is defining Zionism and Jerusalem as “unacceptable,” and is disqualifying key elements of the heritage of the Jewish people,” Israel’s delegation to the UN said in a statement Sunday.

“The UN must reverses this outrageous decision and apologize to the Jewish people.  Zionism and Jerusalem are the foundation-stones and the moral basis upon which the State of Israel was founded,” Danon stated.

This is not the first time the UN has censored an Israeli exhibit because of the historical truths and facts it presents, which are unsettling to the Palestinian narrative.

At the beginning of 2014 the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Director General Irina Bokova cancelled an important exhibit titled “The People, the Book, the Land — 3,500 years of ties between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel” on the connection between the Jewish people and Israel due to Arab pressure.
