These newly released photos are the only images of the revolt that the Nazis did not take.

On April 19, 1943, the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the largest uprising by Jews during World War II, began.

Although the revolt failed, the uprising is considered one of the most significant historic events and a symbol of Jewish resistance.

This week, ahead of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, never before seen images taken by a Polish firefighter were discovered in a family collection.
