A Palestinian worker in Israel was killed Monday night by a rocket that struck a home in Ashkelon.

Mahmoud Abu Asbah, 48, hailed from Halhul, north of Hebron.

During a barrage of over 400 rockets from Gaza aimed at civilian targets, 55 Israelis were wounded at various locations throughout the south.

Some 100 rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system.

The rocket attack reached as far as Ashkelon in the north and the Dead Sea in the east, while the Islamic Jihad has threatened to expand the range of attacks to the Tel Aviv area.

The man killed by the rocket, in his 40s, is the first civilian casualty in Israel from the most intensive wave of attacks since Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014.

Earlier in the evening, a 19-year-IDF soldier was severely injured when an anti-tank missile fired from Gaza hit a bus next to where he was standing.

In response to the hundreds of rockets indiscriminately fired from Gaza at Israel, Israel Air Force (IAF), fighter jets have been striking Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror targets throughout the Strip. “Hamas will bear the consequences of its actions,” the IDF stated.

Some 100 targets were hit, including terror compounds, observation posts, rocket launching squads and Hamas’ Al Aqsa TV station building, as well as Hamas’ military intelligence headquarters.

Hamas had intentionally established its headquarters next to a school, the IDF underscored.

The Israeli navy also carried out several strikes against Hamas naval targets.

Palestinian officials reported that at least three people, including two terrorists, were killed by Israeli fire; nine were wounded
