Some 100 rabbis from Jewish communities around the world on Wednesday visited the biblical site of ancient Shiloh, where the Tabernacle and the Ark of the Covenant once stood.

The group also toured other parts of Samaria, including various locations in the Benyamin region.

A highlight of the visit was sunset at the site of the Tabernacle, where the delegation heard stories of ancient Shiloh, Israel’s ancient capital for 369 years.

The Bible recounts how Joshua set the Tabernacle in Shiloh after conquering the Promised Land, and for more than three centuries, this was the center of life for the Children of Israel.

“The gathering of rabbis from all over the world 3,000 years later, at the same site, was very special, ” said the Benyamin Regional Council in an official statements.

One of the participants, Haim Hasson from the Jewish community in Turkey, noted that the light and sound presentation of the biblical stories in Shiloh was the highlight of his visit.

“It was worth coming, just for this moment, learning about the sources of my family,” he said.

Binyamin Region Council head Israel Gantz told the group that “Shiloh is the roots of the people of Israel. Our special mission is to develop the region and strengthen the communities here.”

“Of course, we hope to see you returning here with your communities to the Biblical heartland of Israel,” he added.
