IDF soldiers and Israeli security forces continued intelligence-based counterterrorism activities in Judea and Samaria on Tuesday night, arresting 12 terror suspects, the latest phase of Operation Wave Breaker.

The IDF stated that members of the elite Duvdevan undercover unit carried out an arrest operation during the night in the Jenin refugee camp, during which two wanted persons suspected of involvement in terrorist activity were arrested.

During the operation, the IDF soldiers encountered a violent riot with the participation of dozens of Arabs who shot at the soldiers, set fire to tires, and threw explosives at the troops, who responded with gunfire.

The Palestinian Authority’s WAFA news agency reported that Ahmad Muhammad Lotfi Massad, 21, was killed and three others were wounded in the clashes.

In addition, the forces posted a demolition order to the house of the terrorist Raed Fathi Hazem, who carried out the shooting attack in Tel Aviv three weeks ago and murdered three Israelis.

Forces from the Golani Reconnaissance Unit and the undercover forces operated in the village of Qabatiya, south of Jenin, and arrested three other wanted persons.

WAFA  identified the three detainees as Yasser Abu al-Rub, and the two freed prisoners, Alaa Hanaysha, and Ali Abu al-Rub.

There were no Israeli casualties.

A total of 12 suspects were arrested across Judea and Samaria during the night.

Israel launched Operation Wave Breaker after it experienced four severe terror attacks in recent weeks.

In the latest attack, a terrorist from Jenin shot and killed three Israelis in the heart of Tel Aviv. Before that, a terrorist from Yabed shot and killed five people in the city of Bnei Brak. In the second attack, two Islamist terrorists shot and killed two Israelis in the city of Hadera. In Beersheba, a terrorist stabbed and murdered four Israelis. Jerusalem has been the scene of several attacks as well.

The country’s security establishment is bracing for further violence, especially toward the end of the Muslim month of Ramadan, and following the first anniversary of Operation Guardian of the Walls in May 2021, which was launched by the IDF following a Hamas rocket attack on Jerusalem that began at the height of the Month of Ramadan.

Operation Wave Breaker is expected to last at least until after Israel’s Independence Day.
