If countries really seek peace in the Middle East they must acknowledge the truth. Urge leading countries to take the first step towards this vital objective by recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital!
Last week, President Donald Trump announced that the US officially recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and that plans to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem are in motion.
“Today, Jerusalem is the seat of the modern Israeli government. It is the home of the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, as well as the Israeli Supreme Court. It is the location of the official residences of the Prime Minister and the President. It is the headquarters of many government ministries,” Trump stated at the White House.
“Jerusalem is the capital the Jewish people established in ancient times,” Trump said. “Today Jerusalem is the seat of Israel’s government.”
“Today, we finally acknowledged the obvious, that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital. This is nothing more than a recognition of reality. It is also the right thing to do,” he stated.
While meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron earlier this week, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, “Paris is the capital of France. Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. It’s been the capital of Israel for 3,000 years. It’s been the capital of the Jewish state for 70 years.”
Netanyahu added that a recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital “is also essential for peace.”
“I think what peace requires is to be built on the foundation of truth, on the facts of the past and on the present. This is the only way that you can build a pluralistic and successful future,” the Israeli premier stated.
“Jerusalem’s never been the capital of any other people. I think the sooner the Palestinians come to grips with this reality, the sooner we’ll move towards peace,” he concluded.
There can be not real peace without the truth!
While a few countries have followed the US lead and have recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, many countries have expressed opposition to the US’ move.
Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that “insisting on denying Jerusalem is Israel’s capital is disavowing an indisputable historical fact.”
“Any denial of this simple truth distances peace by creating expectations detached from reality among the Palestinians,” the ministry said. Furthermore, “President Trump has taken a courageous, righteous step that increases the chances of peace by speaking the truth.”
If European and other countries truly seek peace in the Middle East, they must acknowledge the truth and recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
We must urge all states to seek a truthful and complete peaceful solution in the Middle East, and take a first step towards that vital objective by recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital!
Urge these countries to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital!
