Anti-Israel boycotters are trying to bully Puma into canceling its sponsorship of Israel’s national soccer program. Let’s tell Puma to stand by Israel!
Some 200 Palestinian football clubs and sports associations have recently called on sportswear giant Puma to end its sponsorship of the Israel Football Association (IFA) over the IFA’s inclusion of football clubs based in Judea and Samaria, which they allege is “stolen Palestinian land.”
In a letter addressed to Puma CEO Bjørn Gulden, the Palestinian clubs charged that “as the main international sponsor of the IFA, Puma is lending its brand to cover up and whitewash Israel’s human rights abuses, including against Palestinian footballers.”
Citing Puma’s Code of Ethics, the anti-Israel activist claim that since Puma is committed “to human rights and intend[s] to act as a socially responsible company,” it must withdraw its sponsorship of the IFA until “it ends its involvement in Israel’s grave violations of international law and human rights abuses against Palestinians.”
These accusations represent a routine maneuver out of the Palestinians’ playbook of dirty tricks and unsportsmanlike conduct. Indeed, smearing Israel in international sports forums appears to be Palestinian sports chief (and ex-con terrorist) Jibril Rajoub’s primary job functions.
Predictably, the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) has launched a petition calling on Puma to end its IFA sponsorship.
Puma has a responsibility to do the right thing and NOT heed the hateful call from Palestinian football clubs to end its ties with Israel. We must counter BDS’ heinous, hate-filled campaign!
