Ballot boxes in Oregon and Washington may have been set on fire by an anti-Israel protester, the New York Post reported.
Early Monday morning, fires caused by incendiary devices were discovered in ballot boxes in Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon.
While a built-in fire suppressant extinguished most of the flames at the Portland site, hundreds of ballots were destroyed at the Vancouver site.
According to an election official cited by the New York Post, a political letter was discovered in a ballot box at the Vancouver location.
He added that officials are refraining from sharing information about the contents of the letter and other details of the investigation so as not to deter people from showing up to vote at ballot boxes, or inspire copycat attacks.
At the same time, however, the New York Times reported that the incendiary devices themselves had the words “Free Gaza” written on them.
