Instead of supporting Israel as the vanguard against Islamic terror, the EU repeatedly assaults Israel, Minister Naftali Bennett charges.

Minister of Economy Naftali Bennett chided European Union (EU) diplomats on Monday for trying to force policies on Israel against its will. By threatening economic sanctions and boycotts, they appear to be pushing Israel to “commit suicide” instead of supporting the Jewish state in its struggle against a “river of terror,” he said.

Bennett was addressing 26 representatives of the 28 EU countries at a closed session in Jerusalem when he made these remarks, Israel’s IDF Radio reports. Bennett was the guest speaker at the EU meeting.

“To single out Israel, to twist our arms economically in the hopes that we’ll commit suicide because financially we’ll get hit if we don’t — it’s immoral from my perspective,” Bennett asserted.

The EU castigates Israel “instead of understanding that we’re the big dam in this big river of terror,” Bennett asserted. “Help us, back us,” he demanded.

The EU has repeatedly censured Israel for construction in Jerusalem and elsewhere, even threatening to sever diplomatic ties.

Just last week the EU condemned Israel for newly announced buildings plans. “Israel should reverse these decisions, thereby putting an end to settlement expansion,” the EU stated, claiming that building housing for the residents would be “inflaming the very tense situation on the ground.”

Several EU governments have also voted to recognize the non-existing state of Palestine over the past months, tipping the scales against Israel in the negotiations between the Palestinian Authority and Israel on a permanent diplomatic solution.
