Best Buy, which was listed in 2008 as a Fortune 500 company and is a very popular store within the United States, was mentioned on CAIR’s facebook page as a Platinum Sponsor for a CAIR Minnesota chapter fundraising banquet. CAIR was founded in 1994 by Nihad Awad and Omar Ahmed, both of whom have close ties to the Islamic Association of Palestine, which was established by Hamas operative Mousa Abu Marzouk. In fact, Awad used to be the public relations director of the Islamic Association of Palestine.
According to the Investigative Project on Terrorism, “the Islamic Association of Palestine was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee in the United States. According to an internal Muslim Brotherhood report, the Brotherhood created the IAP to ‘serve the cause of Palestine on the political and media fronts.’ An internal memo calls on the Palestine committee members to work to ‘increase the financial and moral support for Hamas to fight surrendering solutions and to publicize the savagery of the Jews.’ Awad is the 32nd person included on the Palestine Committee’s internal telephone list.”
.
Awad’s new organization, CAIR, is no better than the Islamic Association of Palestine was. During the Holy Land Foundation Trial, CAIR was found to be an ‘unindicted co-conspirator ‘ and was listed among “entities who are/or were members of the US Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee.” In a December 2007 federal court filing, prosecutors described CAIR as “having conspired with other affiliates of the Muslim Brotherhood to support terrorism.” The US government asserted then that CAIR used deception to “conceal from the American public their connections to terrorists.” In 2009, a US federal judge established links between CAIR and Hamas.
Nevertheless, despite these facts, Best Buy has defended their position by asserting, “Best Buy’s customers and employees around the world represent a variety of faiths and denominations. We respect that diversity, and choose to engage with our customers, employees and communities in ways that reflect their traditions and maintain good relationships for Best Buy.” In response, Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy criticized Best Buy.
Jasser asserted, “I can’t believe that Best Buy didn’t do their homework. […] The FBI in 2008 put an open public memo to Senator Kyl stating that this is a group that is not an adequate or appropriate partner or liaison with the Muslim community because they couldn’t even verbally condemn Hamas. This is a group that even locally in their own backyard in Minnesota, where this fundraiser happened that Best Buy was a platinum sponsor for […] actually obstructed attempts of the Somali Muslim community to help the FBI in weeding out and figuring out why a young Muslim was being funneled to Al Shabaab, the Somali version of Al Qaeda.”
Jasser is not the only one who was flabbergasted by Best Buy supporting CAIR. So far, a petition declaring that people should boycott Best Buy until they withdraw their support from CAIR has gathered around 12,500 signatures. In addition, a US marine made a youtube declaration stating that he will refrain from supporting Best Buy because of their support for CAIR. Please view the video below.

Dear Susan Busch,
As a concerned citizen, I am deeply outraged to learn that Best Buy was a platinum sponsor for a CAIR fundraiser, despite the fact that CAIR is a front organization which the FBI has cut off all contacts with due to its intimate connections with Hamas. Hamas is classified as a terrorist organization by the United States and since 1995; it has been illegal to provide support to Hamas.
During the Holy Land Foundation Trial, CAIR was found to be an ‘unindicted conspirator’ and was listed among “entities who are/or were members of the US Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee.” The US Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee is charged with increasing “the financial and moral support for Hamas to fight surrendering solutions and to publicize the savagery of the Jews,” according to an internal Muslim Brotherhood document. CAIR founder Nihad Awad is the 32nd person included on the Palestine Committee’s internal telephone list.
To support a Hamas front organization that persecutes Muslim moderates living in America and supports Hamas in its public relations efforts is not to support diversity. It is to provide material support to a terrorist organization. As Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer of California declared before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Terrorism after rescinding an award she granted to a CAIR official by mistake, “To praise CAIR because they haven’t been indicted is like someone saying I am not a crook.” At least Senator Boxer had the decency to admit that she made a mistake and took actions to correct it. So far, Best Buy has just justified their horrible decision.
I call upon Best Buy to correct this by publicly acknowledging that they made a mistake and to pledge not to provide any support to CAIR or other terrorist front organizations in the future.
Sincerely,
Your Name
