China has called for the establishment of a Palestinian state along the pre-1967 borders, with “East Jerusalem” as the capital.
China is the latest country to join the call for a Palestinian state with the demand that Israel give away land liberated during the 1967 Six Day War, including the strategic Golan Heights, the biblical heartland of Judea and Samaria, the Golan Heights as well as eastern Jerusalem – the holiest city in Judaism – which would be the designated capital.
“China firmly supports the Middle East peace process and supports the establishment of a State of Palestine enjoying full sovereignty on the basis of the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital,” Chinese President Xi Jinping stated Thursday in Cairo during his first address ever to the Arab League, RT reported. He also announced a $7.6 million grant for a solar power station to improve the lives of the Palestinians.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly invited Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to restart negotiations towards a two-state solution, but to no avail.
In June, China made an official request that its citizens employed in Israel not work in Judea and Samaria.
China and Israel have been cooperating extensively in trade and innovation. Recently, for example, the start-up nation was recognized in Shanghai as this year’s country of honor at a prestigious innovation forum.
