While Netanyahu warned the diplomats that Iran controls Lebanon politically via its terror proxy Hezbollah, Danon showed them proof of Iran’s intentions to direct attacks on the Jewish state via cross-border terror tunnels.

On Sunday, dozens of United Nations ambassadors met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after which Israel’s Ambassador to the U.N. Danny Danon took them on a tour of a Hezbollah terror tunnel infiltrating the Jewish state in the north.

During their meeting with the prime minister, Netanyahu warned the diplomats, “It’s important to send this very powerful message [that] just as we stop the terror tunnels coming into Israel, we will stop all the aggression: from Lebanon or from Syria or from Iran itself.”

“We are committed to preventing this aggression, and in so doing we’re not only protecting Israel itself, but also protecting our neighbors and world peace,” he added.

“Iran has proxies. One of them is Hezbollah. Hezbollah just joined the government of Lebanon. That’s a misnomer; they actually control the government of Lebanon. It means that Iran controls the government of Lebanon,” warned Netanyahu.

On his tour of the terror tunnel with the U.N. delegation, Danon presented first-hand evidence of Iran’s influence in Lebanon via Hezbollah, which it has bankrolled with hundreds of millions of dollars.

During the tour, the foreign diplomats received a briefing from IDF officers about Operation Northern Shield, which was the Israeli armies campaign to destroy the cross-border attack tunnels.

Danon intoned, “The struggle against Hezbollah is also a diplomatic struggle. Hezbollah has established a state in southern Lebanon and built several tunnels to harm Israeli residents. This is an opportunity for the international community to call on the Lebanese government to renounce Hezbollah, instead of giving it portfolios in the government, and demand the U.N. Security Council recognize it as a terrorist organization immediately.”
