Israel’s Foreign Minister Eli Cohen is in Baku, the capitol of Azerbaijan, where he arrived for an official visit on Tuesday.
“I made an important visit to Azerbaijan” said Cohen, “to strengthen relations between the countries in the fields of security, economy, energy and tourism.”
He began the trip with a meeting with Minister of Economу of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov with whom he talked about expanding cooperation between the two nations in a variety of fields.
Cohen said that Azerbaijan is a strategic partner for Israel.
In March, Azerbaijan became the first Shi’ite Muslim nation to open an embassy and post an ambassador in Israel when Ambassador Mukhtar Mamed Oglu presented his credentials to Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
While in Baku Cohen is also expected to meet with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and its Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov to discuss strengthening relations in the areas of security, the economy, energy, education, academia, culture and sports and more.
