Anti-Semitic attack or robbery gone bad? A French Jewish politician was found stabbed to death in his apartment.
Alain Ghozland, a Jewish French politician, was murdered in a Paris suburb on Tuesday, in an incident authorities believe to be a robbery gone bad.
Ghozland, 73, a municipal councilor in Creteil, a southeastern suburb of Paris, was found dead by his brother on Tuesday morning with multiple stab wounds. His apartment was ransacked by the assailants. His car was missing form the parking lot.
Le Figaro reported that police have found signs of forced entry into the apartment.
Police have reportedly not ruled out anti-Semitism as the reason for Ghozland’s murder.
The French Jewish CRIF (Conseil Représentatif des Institutions Juives de France) umbrella organization described Ghozland as a “prominent leader of the local Jewish community.”
Creteil has been the site of an anti-Semitic robbery in the past. A Jewish couple was raped and robbed in December 2014 by robbers who said they were targeted because they were Jews.
The Jewish community in France in recent years has been the target of several Islamic attacks.
A Jewish teacher was attacked by and Islamic State (ISIS) supporter on Monday in Marseilles.
The most notable attack on the French Jewish community occurred last January when an Islamic terrorist entered a kosher market in Paris and murdered four Jews.
The wave of Islamic terror in France and the mounting menace of anti-Semitism have driven French Aliyah (immigration) to Israel to a record high.
