Several civilians were injured in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday when a poorly stored weapons cache belonging to one of the terror organizations exploded in the center of a populated area.

While some reports tried to blame Israel for the explosion, the IDF clarified that the terror organizations were to blame for the incident.

The Health Ministry in Gaza reported one death and seven injuries.

“Another tragedy in the Gaza Strip today,” stated Lt. Col. Richard Hecht, International Spokesperson of the IDF. “Weapons stored unsafely in the house of a member of a Palestinian terrorist group exploded and killed a young child in the vicinity”.

“These are the sad consequences of militarizing civilian areas for terrorist activity,” he said.

The majority of the terror organizations’ munitions are locally produced, often low grade and unstable.

During Operation Breaking Dawn earlier this month, the Islamic Jihad terror organization fired some 1,100 rockets at Israel over the course of 55 hours. While about 990 of the rockets flew toward Israel, over 200 of them fell short and exploded inside the Strip, killing and injuring Gazans and causing significant damage, the result of poor handling and storage.
