A drone launched by Hamas terrorists, apparently as part of an effort to find new ways to observe and attack Israel, crashed on the Israeli side of the Gaza border fence.
A Hamas drone flying over Gaza’s airspace Thursday morning crashed into Israeli territory near the border fence, the IDF announced.
The IDF said that it had dispatched forces to the area to examine the remnants. Soldiers from the IDF’s Engineering Corps retrieved the drone for further analysis.
Israeli Air Force (IAF) planes were scrambled after the drone was detected, but it crashed and was not shot down by the IAF.
Hamas has so far remained silent on the incident.
The terror organization, which rules the Gaza Strip, has attempted to penetrate Israeli airspace in the past with an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).
A UAV flying from Gaza was shot down over Ashdod by a Patriot missile battery in July of 2014, during Operation Protective Edge.
