Hezbollah launched two explosive drones at IDF troops operating in the security zone along the Ali Taher Ridge overnight, prompting Israeli strikes against the terrorist group in southern Lebanon, the military said Wednesday.
IDF troops opened fire on one of the drones and successfully intercepted it. No Israeli troops were wounded.
In response, the Israeli Air Force struck Hezbollah infrastructure in the Nabatieh area of southern Lebanon. According to the IDF, the sites were used by Hezbollah terrorists to plan and direct attacks against Israeli troops operating in the security zone and Israeli civilians.
The military said the strikes were carried out to eliminate an immediate threat.
“The IDF is currently operating and will continue to operate forcefully against Hezbollah’s repeated attempts to harm our forces,” the military said.
Separately, air-raid sirens sounded across several communities in northern Israel overnight Wednesday over what initially appeared to be a drone infiltration from Lebanon.
The IDF said interceptors were launched at a suspicious aerial target that appeared to have crossed into Israel from Lebanon. Rocket and missile sirens were also activated as a result of the interception attempts. No injuries were reported.
Several hours later, the IDF said a preliminary investigation indicated that the incident was likely a false alarm and that several interceptors had been launched at a false target.
