Lt. Col. Revital Barzani made history on Tuesday when she became the first-ever female battalion commander in the Israeli Air Force’s (IAF) Aerial Defense Corps.
She took charge of the 66th Battalion, which operates the ‘David’s Sling’ Defense System and manages alerts for the Home Front. The David’s Sling is meant to intercept planes, drones, tactical ballistic missiles, medium- to long-range rockets, and cruise missiles.
Barzani is married and has three children.
“It is a privilege for me to command the 66th Ram Battalion, a battalion with an extensive history and an important and significant role in protecting the country’s sky,” Barzani stated during the ceremony in which she assumed command of the battalion.
“I succeed in getting to where I am today thanks to a professional setup with significant and skilled commanders as well as quality fighters who do their best to protect the skies of the State of Israel,” she said.
