Iran has developed a sense of invincibility, power and victory, boasting of superpower status and surrender of the West to the Islamic Republic in wake of the nuclear agreement.

Top Iranian officials, headed by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, stated that the Islamic Republic has attained superpower status with standing equal to that of the US, strengthened by the nuclear agreement signed with the P5+1 powers. They boasted of Iran’s might, claiming it had forced the superpowers to surrender to its demands, analysis by MEMRI (Middle East Media Research Institute) shows.

Statements made recently by Iran’s leadership testify to this sense of victory following the recent signing of the nuclear accord.

“Iran has attained such status that the superpowers have surrendered to it, because of its majesty, its steadfastness, its resistance, and its unity. Despite their great pride, the regime of the arrogance [the West, led by the US] sat humbly behind the negotiating table and obeyed the rights of the Iranian nation,” Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan stated last week.

Iran: ‘Superpowers have Surrendered’

Iran’s Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei added that “those who leveled sanctions against us yesterday are dying today – because Iran has become the region’s foremost military power.”

The statement on Khamenei’s website was accompanied by a poster, titled “The Iron Fist,” adorned with Iranian flags breaking through the clouds. The fist is composed of military equipment, including missiles, jets, ships, tanks and other military equipment.

‘Sunset of American Power’

The Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which is entrusted with Iran’s foreign military activities, including its global terror network, claimed that Iran became a superpower with standing equal to that of the US, and that this is why the US had agreed to conduct nuclear talks with Iran.

“[Obama’s] speech [after the signing of the agreement] clearly shows the sunset of American power and that [the US] has been downgraded from a superpower to an ordinary power… Obama’s statements defending negotiating with Iran can lead to one of two conclusions: Either America views Iran and its deterrence as equal to those of the former Soviet Union… or America does not have the status it once did,” the IRGC said on its website.

“America does not have the courage to attack it militarily or even to conduct bilateral talks, so it is being helped by three European countries [France, Britain, and Germany],” the IRGC asserts. Fearing Iran’s “soft power,” “the Islamic Revolution’s increasing might has caused America to transform itself, due to fear, from a stupid enemy into a relatively clever one.”

Yadollah Javani, the IRGC’s senior advisor to Khamenei, wrote late in July that the US “could not work up the courage to carry out a military assault on Iran.”

“In the past decade, the Americans and Zionists [Israel] have repeatedly threatened to attack Iran, but due to their deep concerns regarding the implications of a possible war against [Iran], they have not followed through with their threats… Therefore, American officials announced that Iran’s nuclear dossier would only be resolved by diplomatic means,” he wrote on the IRGC site.

“So far the Americans have not attacked because of Iran’s deterrence, which is steadily increasing. A decade ago, the Americans were stronger than they are today, and the Islamic Republic of Iran was weaker. In the past decade, the power of America and its allies in the region has eroded, while the power of the Islamic Republic and its allies has only increased. Therefore, the regional upheavals during the past decade have worked in Iran’s favor and to the detriment of the US. Thanks to the nuclear agreement, this process will not take a turn for the worse for Iran, but could only add special might to it,” he declared.

“However, the truth is that the time of this superpower [US] has passed, and America must accept the facts of the new world. The world’s balance of power is shifting, and a new international political order is being shaped. [This new world order] includes the acknowledgement of a nuclear-fuel-cycle-Iran with decisive deterrent capabilities in the region by the world’s six main powers,” he concluded.

Hezbollah, the Lebanon-based terror organization, and the Assad regime in Syria, have also interpreted the outcome of the nuclear agreement as an Iranian victory over the US and the West.

Sign the Petition to Stop a Nuclear Iran

The US Congress must ensure that sanctions against Iran remain in force until the nuclear threat is completely eliminated.

I strongly oppose easing sanctions before the nuclear threat from Iran has been eliminated. Allowing Iran to enrich uranium without being subject to 'anytime, anywhere' inspections is extremely dangerous and unacceptable. Iran's nuclear program must be stopped.
