Reports indicate that General Qasem Soleimani of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, allegedly responsible for multiple American deaths, was seriously wounded in Syria.
According to an Iranian website, General Qasem Soleimani, major general in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), was critically wounded in Syria 12 days ago, Al-Arabiya reported.
A Persian-language website close to the National Council of Resistance of Iran said that Soleimani and two other IRGC fighters were seriously injured 12 days ago in Aleppo’s battles after being targeted with an anti-tank rocket, according to Al-Arabiya.
Soleimani reportedly received first aid in Syria and was then transferred to Tehran, where he is being treated in a hospital.
Amir Mousavi, director of the Center for Strategic Studies and International Relations in Tehran, confirmed the news on Soleimani’s injury Al-Arabiya said.
A high-ranking Quds brigade leader has reportedly taken over the command of Iranian forces and militias linked to them in Syria, the report continued. His identity was not revealed.
Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ leaders in Tehran reportedly admitted that they had concealed the news of Soleimani’s injury in order not to impact negatively on the morale of the fighters in Syria.
Since 1998, Soleimani also commanded the IRGC’s Quds Force—a division primarily responsible for extraterritorial military, terror and clandestine operations. He is believed to be responsible for multiple American deaths.
Soleimani, according to a Fox news report in August, had secretly traveled to Russia in the second half of July – only days after the signing of the Iran nuclear deal – apparently in violation of existing US and UN Security Council sanctions on him.
