Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Iran’s decisions will not be affected by elections results in the US and President-elect Donald Trump’s victory, asserting that Washington’s policies on Iran have always remained hostile, irrespective of the leadership.
“We don’t have any judgment about the election since the US is the same US, and during the past 37 years that the two parties held the power, they didn’t do any good to Iran and they permanently did evil things to the Iranian nation,” Khamenei stated in Tehran on Wednesday, addressing a large gathering of the Iranians.
“Unlike some of those in the world who have either been mourning or celebrating the results of the US elections, we are neither mourning nor celebrating, and the results make no difference to us,” he added.
Iran’s Islamist rulers fear external Western or secular influences on the country’ population, and work diligently to block any such sway, sometimes resorting to ridiculous actions to do so.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in October described Trump and his rival Hillary Clinton as “bad and worse,” without specifying which was which.
