Islamic State terrorists are reportedly very close to the northern Israeli border, but for now they seem focused mainly on the war in Syria.

A new video released by the Islamic State appears to show ISIS-affiliated groups fighting mere kilometers from Israel’s border on the southern Golan Heights, according to a Channel 2 news report Sunday evening.

However, the report continues, despite their close proximity to the Israeli border, the terrorists did not appear to pose an explicit threat to Israel; rather, their focus seems to be on the Syrian civil war.

Still, Israeli security forces are monitoring the situation closely. Intelligence-gathering within the IDF’s Northern Command has greatly increased.

In April, during the first-ever cabinet meeting in the Golan Heights, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed that the territory is crucial for Israel’s security on its northern border and that “the Golan Heights will remain under Israel’s sovereignty permanently.”
