Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Member of Knesset (MK) Benny Gantz commended US President Donald Trump for his successful attack in Syria, which killed ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Netanyahu said that the killing of al-Baghdadi is very significant, but does not conclude the military campaign against ISIS.

“I would like to congratulate President Trump on the impressive achievement that led to the death of ISIS leader al-Baghdadi. It reflects the shared determination of Israel, the United States and all free countries, to fight against terrorist organizations and terror-states. This achievement is an important milestone, but the campaign is still ahead of us,” said Netanyahu.

Blue and White leader, MK Benny Gantz tweeted about the American assassination of al-Baghdadi, saying it sends a strong message to terrorists across the world.

“The fight against terrorism requires a combination of responsibility, patience and determination to act when necessary. The assassination of ISIS leader al-Baghdadi combines all three. This is an important achievement of the US military, led by President Trump. The fight against terrorism is long and stubborn, but every targeted killing [of terrorists] sends a daunting message – the long arm of those who fight terror reaches everywhere,” he tweeted.

According to Trump’s announcement on Sunday, ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has been killed by US Special Forces in a raid on his safe house near Idlib in northwest Syria, bringing an end to the intense manhunt for one of the world’s leading terrorists.

Trump said al-Baghdadi died “running into a dead-end tunnel, whimpering and crying and screaming all the way. He died like a dog; he died like a coward.”

“The world is now a much safer place,” he added.

The president said that al-Baghdadi detonated himself before he was caught, but DNA testing confirms the body was his.

“[Baghdadi] ignited his vest, killing himself and the three children. Test results gave certain immediate and totally positive identification; it was him,” he said.
