The State of Israel will seize funds from eight terroristsas compensation to their victims, which will be collected from the salaries that the Palestinian Authority (PA) transfers to the terrorists every month. The total sum to be foreclosed is about NIS 4.2 million.
The legal process began about seven months ago by Israeli authorities and its implementation began Monday after Minister of Justice Amit Ohana ordered the Enforcement and Collection Authority to take action.
Ohana lauded the move as “an important legal-economic step in the war on terror.”
“The State of Israel has a supreme commitment to stand alongside the victims of terror and their families – and so it does,” he stated, warning that “as long as the PA continues to fund terror through the payment of salaries and grants to terrorists and their families – we will collect from it the compensation to the victims of terror and their families.”
The terrorists who will face the foreclosure included Nur Aladdin Hashia who murdered IDF soldier Almog Shiloni in November 2014 in Tel Aviv, Khalid Kotina who murdered Shalom Sharki and attempted to murder another woman in Jerusalem in May 2015, Khalid al-Muhamra, Muhammad Ahmad Moussa Mahmara, and Yunes Zayn who murdered Ido Ben-Ari, Mila Mishayev, Ilana Naveh, and Michael Feige and attempted to murder another 41 at the Sarona Market in Tel Aviv in July 2016.
Similarly, Amar Janadav who attempted to murder an IDF soldier in Tel Aviv in July 2016, and Yosef Kamil and Muhammad Abu Elrov who murdered Reuven Shmerling in a stabbing attack in Kafr Qasem on the eve of Sukkot 2017, will also face legal action.
Israel has recently taken several steps in its economic war against terrorism.
Defense Minister Naftali Bennett in December approved freezing NIS 150 million of taxes and tariffs Israel collects for the PA in response to the payments it makes to terrorists and their families, dubbed “pay-for-slay.”
Israel had already approved freezing NIS 500 million from funds it collects for the PA in response to payments it makes to convicted terrorists in Israeli prisons, released prisoners and their families.
The additional NIS 150 million specifically targeted PA funds given to the families of terrorists who were killed or injured during acts of terrorism against Israelis.
