Israel’s Embassy in Ghana has opened a week-long seminar aimed at empowering women socially and economically.

As part of its activities to strengthen development cooperation between Israel and Ghana, the Israeli embassy in Accra, Ghana’s capital and largest city, is hosting Dr. Michal Sela, a MASHAV (Israel’s Agency for International Development and Cooperation) resource trainer.
Sela will lead a series of workshops and dialogue programs to contribute to Ghana’s efforts to empower women socially and economically.
Sela is former chief director of the Women’s Lobby in Israel. Her expertise ranges from community mobilization and local leadership development to organizational development, women’s rights, empowerment, education and gender mainstreaming, management of social and educational entrepreneurship, and project management.
About 30 women from different career and social backgrounds will benefit from this MOSHAV initiative in collaboration with the Network of Women in Growth (NEWIG), Amicus Onlus, Inner-City Development Foundation, Oaks & Wuuds, and the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.
Women as Agents for Change
At the conclusion of the workshops, focusing on issues such as gender sensitivity and mentorship, these women will be equipped with tools and skills that will help them become change agents in their respective communities in the spheres of entrepreneurship as well as overcoming obstacles specifically related to their professions.
Sela will also engage in a series of dialogues with other professional women in Ghana in order to share experiences and ideas on women’s issues in Ghana and Israel.
Ghana was the first country from Black Africa to establish diplomatic relations with Israel.
Israel has a long history of sharing its expertise with African countries, and Jerusalem hopes that stronger ties will lead to a shift in voting trends at the UN and other global forums, thus reversing what Netanyahu has labeled the “automatic majority against Israel.”
