Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara landed in Entebbe, Uganda, where they were met by his counterpart, Ruhakana Rugunda, and his wife Jocelyn.

The one-day trip to the east African country on Monday is his second in past four years. It is also his fifth visit to Africa in three and a half years.

“Israel is returning to Africa in a big way; Africa has already returned to Israel,” Netanyahu told reporters at Ben-Gurion International Airport upon his departure.

The prime minister was traveling to Uganda to strengthen “very important diplomatic, economic and security ties that will yet be told about,” and he said he hoped to have good news for the State of Israel by the end of the day. Netanyahu is hoping that Uganda will open an embassy in Jerusalem.

Netanyahu then went to the presidential residence for a meeting with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni. The Netanyahus were welcomed by the president and his wife, Education Minister Janet Museveni.

The two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in a broad range of areas: Civilian, economic, health, water, energy, communications and agriculture.

Netanyahu wrote in the guestbook:

“To President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet,

“Many thanks for your incomparable hospitality and friendship – to us and to the State of Israel. We are deeply moved and deeply grateful.”
