Israel will send aid to India, which is contending with the worst Coronavirus (COVID-19) situations in the world.
Israel’s National Security Council head Meir Ben-Shabbat spoke on Monday with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval, assuring him that “Israel stands united with our friend India in its fight against COVID-19 and is committed to providing any support needed during these tough times.”
Israel has yet to decide what kind of aid it will dispatch, but talks on the matter were held at the Foreign Ministry.
India is experiencing the world’s worst outbreak, and daily cases have been rising continuously for the past 10 days. On Monday, India reported 352,991 new cases, breaking yet another record for the highest single-day figure globally.
2,771 Corona patients have died in India in the past day and the overall death toll in the country has risen to 197,894.
The Indian variant has two mutations that may make it more infectious or less affected by vaccines.
Some 10 cases the Indian Coronavirus COVID-19 variant have been identified in Israel among returnees from abroad.
