Israel will become the main supplier of energy to Jordan in the next 15 years, according to a new agreement.
An agreement in its final stages delineates that Israel will be the primary supplier of natural gas to Jordan.
A dramatic deal is forming between two energy companies – US-based Noble Energy and Israel’s Delek Drilling – and Jordan. Both companies hold the drilling rights of the Leviathan gas field off the coast of Israel.
Senior Noble and Delek representatives are currently meeting with the Jordanian government in order to sign a $15 billion deal to supply natural gas to the Hashemite kingdom over the course of the next 15 years. The negotiations are being held at the American embassy in Amman.
The agreement, which will be the first sale using gas from Leviathan, received the go-ahead from both sides. The Leviathan reservoir is the largest ever discovered in Israel’s territorial waters; most of its gas supply is designated for export.
Jordan is in a dire need of a new source of energy since Egypt, who was its previous main supplier, had stopped providing them with gas for energy.
