This past year a number of organizations in Israel, spearhead by the Im Tirzu movement, have made public the fact that many human rights organizations in Israel receive funding from foreign governments interested in changing Israel’s policies.
The publicity of this fact caused a public outcry in Israel and motivated a number of Knesset members to submit legislation that would either stop or limit this practice. One bill explains that “organizations that call themselves “human rights groups” are really operating to “influence the internal political discourse and the character and policies of the State of Israel.”
These Knesset members want to make sure that just as no country wants Israel, or other countries, to meddle with it’s policies, so too Israel wants to stop this external meddling as well.
