Eco Wave Power, an Israeli start-up, completed construction and entered the testing phase of its first commercial scale wave power plant in Gibraltar.

Although water covers three-quarters of the earth’s surface and the energy that can be gathered from the oceans equals twice the amount of electricity currently produced, the world has yet to capitalize on the power of ocean waves, according to the World Energy Council.

Eco Wave Power, an Israeli start-up, is making great progress in this field and has recently completed its first commercial-scale power plant, located in Gibralter.

This new, $5 million, 5 megawatt plant is expected to produce 15 percent of Gibralter’s electricity within two years, Eco Wave Power co-founder Inna Braverman told the NoCamels news site.
