After mass support from Israelis, a policewoman wounded in a terror attack can look forward to going home.

Close to 4,000 Israelis have joined a crowd funding project and donated over NIS 1 million to help policewoman Tzipi Yaakobian, who was seriously wounded in a stabbing attack near Jerusalem’s Old City last September, to go home.

Yakobian was on her way to work with another officer when they were attacked and stabbed by a Palestinian terrorist. Yakobian sustained a neck wound which rendered her handicapped, while the second victim, a 45-year old male officer, was moderately wounded.

The terrorist was shot dead.

Yaakobian, 38 and a mother of two, was hospitalized at Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center in serious condition for weeks and then began a rehabilitation process at Hadassah hospital, but she remains disabled as a result of the attack.

She has been in the hospital for over 270 days and has been unable to return home to the town of Anatot, which is not accessible to the handicapped. Therefore, she could not be discharged.

The family did not have the means to purchase a home that would meet Yaakobian’s special needs.

Under the banner “Freeing Tzipi,” a mass funding campaign was launched and over NIS 1 million was donated to the cause. Yaakobian now looks forward to returning home to her family.

Responding to the good news, she said she was deeply moved by the success of the campaign,
