The world over, Israeli actress Gal Gadot is recognized as “Wonder Woman” due to her famous turn as that iconic superhero.
It was recently announced at the D23 Expo in California that the Petah Tikva native will take on another classic role, starring as the evil queen in an upcoming Disney live-action production of “Snow White.”
“She’s so much different than anything that I’ve ever played before,” said Gadot in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“It was great to explore all of those differences … It was just delicious and I enjoyed every moment of it,” she added.
“Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” debuted in 1937, taking its place in the pantheon of great animated films produced by Disney.
In her turn as the evil queen, Gadot will have a chance to stretch out artistically, breaking away from her image as the modern face of the Wonder Woman character. Gadot will also sing and dance in “Snow White,” another departure from her previous roles in Hollywood.
In real life, Gadot remains a steadfast advocate for Israeli children. In August, she surprised residents of Netiv HaAsara, a town near the Gaza border that was under siege from rockets fired by Palestinian terrorists to the south. Wonder Woman swooped in to bring joy to the lives of Israeli children living in the line of fire.
Gadot also puts her money where her mouth is, investing with her husband, Jaron Varsano, in ed-tech startup Safe School, a content streaming platform for schools.
“The company creates personalized educational plans to combat and reduce bullying and cyberbullying,” reported CTech. “The platform is currently operating in Israel, where it has onboarded almost 600 schools. Gadot and Varsano’s investment comes on the back of a $2 million Seed round led by Safe School’s Co-Founder, Nir Zohar, President and COO of Wix.”
Calcalist estimated that Gadot and Varsano’s investment was “in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.”
“Snow White” is slated for release in 2024.
